shopping-bagsWhy choose reusables? Reusable bags are cheap, have great colors, and can be used over and over and over again. And when you consider the two alternatives, the answer is even more obvious.

Paper bags are made from trees, lots and lots of trees. The process required to transform those trees into the paper bags found at your local grocery store leaves a devastating mark on our earth in the form of clear cut forests and serious greenhouse gas emissions. Paper bags are rarely recycled, which means trees must be continuously cut down to provide for all the paper bags that are used everyday.

Plastic bags are derived from crude oil.  The process of extracting crude oil and turning it into those light weight plastic bags found at your local grocery store, again, takes a heavy toll on our planet this time in the form of oil spills, natural habitat destruction, and greenhouse gas emissions. They are rarely recycled which means they end up in our landfills or, even worse, as urban tumbleweeds where they take thousands of years to brake down and can harm many animals in the process.
