This November Californians will be voting on a ballot initiative that is intended to remove a law that places limits on greenhouse gas emissions. As of now, the established law has set up restrictions on such emissions to work toward the goal of reducing them to levels that are on par with those from 1990. The new initiative, however, would remove the limitations that are in place, until a later and possibly indefinite time. Furthermore, the bill is being supported by some external actors. Read more…
I’m often an opponent of buying bottled water. I regard it as a sham put forth to a market that is ready to consume almost anything with alacrity. Furthermore, disposable water bottles are a burden on our increasingly strained environment. When available, I will use filtered water from a Brita machine or something of the like. It’s nice to have a cold glass on hand, and it just seems to taste so clean! I must admit however, more often than not I go straight for the tap. It’s quick, easy, and it can’t be that dirty…right? I thought about writing this article the other day when some friends and I were talking about chewing gum, and whether or not it was ok, from an environmental standpoint, to throw gum on the ground. Perhaps the answer to this question is common knowledge, but none of us were sure, so I am guessing other people might be curious as well. Furthermore, there are some interesting developments underway in the realm of chewing gum production.
Although efforts to clean the oil in the Gulf have only really just begin since the well was capped, it seems things are already being put on hold. Tropical storm Bonnie, with winds up to 40 miles per hour, is approaching the Gulf and is expected to be in the vicinity of the oil well by Saturday morning. Read more…
